Bed&Breakfast

This is the tent we use. It is a Chenango III by a label called Our Planet.

By the processing quality (open seams), and by the price one could suggest that it is one of those disposable festival tents, but in fact the fabrics are some quite good stuff, and by the construction it looks like a Vaude Taurus II clone. In fact, a very good to handle, lightweighted and practical tent.

I like it a lot and recommend it. In my opinion there´s only one tent better than this one: the original, Vaude…

Our sleeping bags are an Ajungilak and a Malachowski. Both are supposed to be suitable for temperatures around or a bit below zero.

Together with the 20 mm foam mattresses we use it should be possible to survive

– in summer, in Europe and West Asia … 😉

Primus Gravity & Bottle

Primus Gravity & Bottle

The stove we use is a Primus Gravity Multifuel. Worth mentioning that you can even burn Diesel in it if necessary – but not recommendable 😉

It is very light-weighted compared to the competition (Coleman) and quite easy to use.

But, it is not without objections. One thing that I am really fed up with: The stove may be engineered in Sweden, but is produced completely in China. I do not understand that. Especially because it isn´t exactly sold at cheapest prices.

The aluminium mat which is ment to place the stove upon broke in four quarters after the first use. By the way it was ment to be unfolded and refolded after use, I suppose that this is a calculated reaction – of which use, dunno. By the way, I wouldn´t have trusted it to prevent the ground from catching fire if gasoline drained out.

That is why I made myself something like a flat rectangular bowl – of metal, which serves the purpose quite well – and you could even use it as a trencher – before flooding it with gasoline, of course 😉

Post scriptum: After having used the stove for the first time, I am quite disappointed. Even Primus PowerFuel does not combust without soothing the cookware. And you can not regulate the flame as much as is necessary. I am quite convinced that it works a lot better with gaseous fuel. However, if you are looking for a stove that is only intended to burn liquid  fuel of various quality, I would suggest something else.

PPS: Having used it for 2 months on our tour now, I am not happier with it. Also, it did not disappoint me further – it works as before, with everything it gets. Here in Eastern Europe it works best with something they call WHITE SPIRIT. You get it in shops where you can buy lacquers, paints and such stuff.

PPPS: Having used it for 4 months now, I really must say that this stove is not worth the quite lot money it costs.

4 months of dirty – soothed hands and cookware. A few weeks ago the pump couldn’t establish any pressure. Simply the small leather cloth which works as a valve weared out. If they would have installed a small plate for keeping it in place insead of wandering along in the pump everything would have been fine. At least I found one in my equipment and repaired it.

After that, the pump didn’t work because the small aluminium abrasion coming from everyday use polluted the filter of the petrol tube. Dunno if there is a new one in the repair kit. Should be because this is something which is mostly sure to happen after a while. I have no repair kit so I cut off the dirty parts of the filter. If the remaining part of the filter gets too dirty to let the petrol trough I will have to use the pump without filter at all. No possibility to clean the filter.

Having had the possibility to compare my Primus Gravity with the Primus MultyFuel, I must say that the difference is unbelieveabely big. The MultiFuel stove seems to work nearly perfectly compared to the Gravity. Never again I will buy a Gravity and can not recommend it at all to anybody who wants to burn liquid fuel with it.

Our dishes have some history to tell. I use my Eastern Germany Army
cookware ever since I started travelling. If that ain´t enough reason to go on with it…
